Sxe Snooki

Yay :)
So this week I am totally not forced at all to write about my inspiration, so I am writing about who inspired me to do this blog. As you have probably noticed by now, I am a fan of YouTube, or "the YouTube" as older generations call it. One of the few channels I subscribe to on YouTube is sXephil. Sxephil posts videos about twice a week and, as his intro states, it is a news show. But this is not your grandmother's news show, I mean this is on "the YouTube". Philip DeFranco has segments like "douchebag of the day", QOTD (question on the day) and the vocab of a sailor. But he is extremely witty and when it comes down to it, the show is pretty interesting. His sarcastic wit and structured segments inspired me for my blog. So thanks for that Philly D. I give this video a 3/5 but his overall channel a 4.5/5. Enjoy :)

Nay :(

We have all heard of Jersey Shore, some of you watch it, and other have only heard the rumors but I think we can all agree, it's pretty much trash. The characters are given show names and this particular video features "Snooki". This clip is from the Jay Leno Show and Snooki is featured... and the word "featured" is used very loosely here. She is asked questions including my personal favorite "If you were to change something about the world what would it be?" and Snooki answers "Umm, well, I would put a tanning bed in every home. And I would eliminate the bump-it, because I don't use a bump-it... I tease." Classy stuff. For the sheer stupidity I give this video a 2/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This is "Fred". Fred is a YouTube sensation, with his high pitch voice and awkward story lines he's taken the internet. But what do you think? Is "Fred" as funny as the ratings dictates? Or is "Fred" just someone with a weird voice? What do you think?

As far as "Hey Jude" goes, I love it! I don't see a huge difference between this kind of child exposure and America's Funniest Home Videos, and there's no controversy with that. So cute little singer, rock on!

And the plot... pops?

Yay :)
It is safe to say, living in a college dorm, that the Twilight fad has overstayed its welcome. Everywhere you look there are crazed girls pledging their allegiance to "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" how about Team "it's a freaking book... get over it" HISHEdotcom, the maker of this video, seems to agree with me (and the rest of the sane world). Along with the video "How Twilight Should Have Ended" there are dozens of other hilarious parodies including "How 2012 Should Have Ended" and "How The Blair Witch Project Should Have Ended". The comedy style mirrors Aaron Kauro, how it just makes humor from simple observations, but HISHEdotcom takes it one step further. I give this video a 4/5 Enjoy :)

Nay :(

What we have here, my friends, is a typical case of human stupidity. I mean who hasn't dreamt of encasing themselves in a giant balloon, oh right, everyone. Well this guy is the exception. I love the fact that he starts the video with "Okay, this is my second attempt, but this time I got a slightly larger balloon, and 80 inch, made in South America!" Alright, can we just bask in hilarity that he tried this before and decided to go at it again? And not only is he trying this again, but he went to the lengths of ordering a balloon from South America. After is oh so brilliant plan takes a turn for the worse, he remains surprisingly composed. Calmly saying phrases like "I'm becoming trapped inside the balloon." when I would have been like "For the love of God!! AHHHHH *&!@$#*!!! GET ME OUT!" So you've got to give him credit there. But as he emerges from the now shrunken balloon, you learn that he is a briefs, not boxers man, good to know. And finally let's take into account that he ends the video with a graceful "I hate this", not "this is the last time" or "never again" just "I hate this". I'm going to be on the look out for a new and improved video with a sightly LARGER balloon, possibly a 90 inch or something like that. I give this video a 2/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This is a small, adorable child singing "Hey Jude". While the kid is pretty good what do you think? Should parents have the right to post videos of their kids when they are too young to understand what is going on? Or is it just an innocent cute little kid rocking out? What do you think?

As for "My Spoon is too Big", I'm not the biggest fan. While it does embrace the attention span of today's youth, it is still crappy animation with no point. I give it a 2/5.

Don't Hassel the hoff. Oh and other stuff too!

Yay :)
I usually try to stay as far away from politics as possible so I will start this post with a disclaimer: in no way am I promoting or discouraging, praising or condemning the policies, principles, or political affairs while writing this post. I am simply critiquing and analyzing a video based on the "Yes we Can" speech delivered by our current President, Barack Obama. Whether or not you like/ agree with Obama, you have to admit, the man can give a speech. The words "Yes we Can" are almost as famous as "four score and seven years ago..." by another famous president. Some believe that this speech is what won the election of Obama. This speech is already inspirational, but add music and it is downright powerful. While the speech is playing music, other voices, and rythm are added. The celebrity singers include: Scarlett Johansson, Tatyana Ali, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Kate Walsh, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Adam Rodriquez, Kelly Hu, Adam Rodriquez, Amber Valetta, Nick Cannon, and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas. This video takes an election speech, and makes it something that teens want to listen to, it's not just interrupting the game, this made it interesting. And after all, we are not only the future of the world, we are the now. This was a great technique to make reach teen voters. It takes prose, and makes it poetry. I give this video a 3.5/5. Enjoy :)

Nay :(
This is one of those videos you watch, then feel the need to wash your eyes out with bleach. But it's like a horrible crash, you just can look away. David Hasselhoff is not particularly known for his grace or eloquence, he is quoted saying,"Beyond its entertainment value, Baywatch has enriched and, in many cases, helped save lives. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to continue with a project which has had such a significance for so many." Yeah Hasselhoff, that's what we all think of when we hear Baywatch... public safety. But this one has to take the Hasselhoff cake. This is a video to "Hooked on a feeling" and it's so bad it almost good. First he's in a tux at a wedding type scene, then OH WAIT! he's in a fur coat skiing? Then the desert? Enter two angels!! Well I think you get the idea... if there even is an idea. I give this video a 2/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This video spread through the teen/tween population like big news in a small town. It is only 35 seconds long and has two unique lines of dialogue. My spoon is too big! is a video that you may have already seen but what do you think? Is it really funny? Or is it just a sad realization of what entertainment passes for nowadays? What do you think?

As for "funny french bulldog" I agree with the title. It's funny and freaking adorable. If you look closely in the background the mama bulldog was right there and if her pup was in any real pain or trouble she would have done more than just lay there. I give it a 3/5

Wordplay and Song fail

Yay :)
Our first video for today is an interesting video for the song "Let the Drummer Kick" by Citizen Cope. Normally when the word music video comes up we think of half naked unrealistic girls shaking their butts to a rap song that no one can understand-- but man does it have a beat! But the artist that came up with this particular video took a different route. Arturitis, the poster of this video, made an intriguing video based on one of the most important elements of the song, the lyrics. Not only does the video feature the lyrics, but it portrays the words in a way that shows the meaning. We all remember bopping our ninth grade heads to this song, but how many of us actually listened to the music. This video not only highlights the talent of the artist, but also the meaning, and even the beat of the song very effectively. I give this video a 4/5 Enjoy :)

Nay :(
Let's be honest, all of us have made a fool out of ourselves singing / dancing to a song we like. But the difference between us and xxgemmyxx is that we did not post our stupidity on YouTube. Of course this poor sap did not think that his humiliation would get 1,375,564 views to date. Let's just take a moment and Analise this video shall we? Zoom in on a mint green bean bag chair, enter awkward redhead. Once you are about to click away from this video a giant "Pfffffffffffffff..." comes across the screen, that's 15 "f"s that's a lot of tween angst people. Let's move from the bean bag chair to a bed with... yes Minnie mouse sheets. As the awkward tween changes positions to the beat of the music you can also notice the stuffed animals in the background. Close up! Now you can really appreciate the amount of hair gel he uses... And now his back to the bed, well kind of. Maybe he realized how weird the sheets were and thought "Hmm, I'll pick something less weird, how about I lay on the floor right next to the bed! GENIUS! Also I could accentuate the fact that I am on the floor by having a giant word bubble pop up and say "HERE"! And they say I'm not creative..." Time for some choreography! Some classic dance moves including the "awkward teen tries to move his hips" and "strange head roll" are used in this portion. And finally end scene. Wow, that's some quality video right there. I give this video a 1/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This video holds true to its name... funny french bulldog. But what do you think? Is it cute? Or animal cruelty? Should the person filming help the dog out? Or is it just a cute puppy rolling around? Enjoy

As for "Charlie bit my finger...again!" I freaking love it. I don't care how many times I see it, it will brighten my day every time. :)

Pavement Picasso and Toilets

Yay :)
The Pavement Picasso has been a favorite artist of mine for a long time. Julian Beever (the Pavement Picasso) is famous for creating almost 3D sidewalk drawings. In this video by janebramwell, Kurt Wenner is also featured. Both artists have taken sidewalk chalk to the next level. Janebramwell cleverly backed this video with the song "Sidewalk Pictures" by Stephanie Mabey. Even if you are not an artist, and do not enjoy art museums I still think that you can appreciate this video. Julian Beever draws in such an unusual style that you can only get the full experience of his art by looking at it from a specific angle. Any other way that you view his peices they look stretched out, and I think the video did a good job of showing that it is an illusion, a fantastic illusion. I give this video a 4/5. Enjoy :)

Nay :(
This video is literally entitled "Sittin On Tha Toilet"... classy. Can I just say that I understand shortening words for text messages, but there are two things wrong with "tha". First, you are not texting, there is a full keyboard in front of you. Secondly, the word "tha" (and I use the word "word" very loosely there)is the same amount of letters as the. So next time alonzochadwick, just write the word the. It is just a very large woman sitting on the toilet saying "Sittin On Tha Toilet" over and over again for a full forty three seconds. But kids, don't forget to flush! Oh wait, she didn't. Now the thing that I don't get is that this video is spreading like wildfire! So by writing this post I suppose that I am fueling that lavatory fire, but oh well, it's so bad it's almost good. The best thing about this video is that in the first few seconds a banner pops up asking the viewer to vote for them in a singing competition... yeah, after watching this video I do not feel inspired to help further you in the entertainment world. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This video is a classic, well as much as a YouTube video can be a classic. Charlie bit my finger. Now if you have not seen this video, welcome to the internet. The two little Brits are just sitting... no not on a toilet, and Charlie bites Harry's finger, and for some reason it's just so darn cute. With 167,531,693 views it's become one of the most popular videos of all time. But what do you think? Is it really just overrated? Or are they 167,531,693 view worthy? Enjoy

Stop-Motion and Horrible Singing

YAY :)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This video by Olympus Pen features 60,000 photographs. This is a beautiful montage of life in stop-motion. I have always loved stop-motion video, maybe it's because of my passion for photography, or maybe it's because it forces you to take each moment and really consider it, but I love it. The video is to the song "Down Below" by Johannes Stankowski, which is another wonderful element of this video. Stop-motion is an art that is very easy to mess up, but Olympus Pen but knocked this one out of the park. The company said they were inspired by Taijin Takeuchi, a very admired stop-motion artist. I give this video a 4/5. Enjoy!

NAY :(
This video is literally titled "Bad singer takes a tumble". Well at least you stayed true to the name. There are a few general rules that all public speakers should follow. Fist you should always be prepared. Never come unprepared, and if you do... fake it. But kirsty53cady starts off her video telling you to ignore her appearance because she just got out of the shower. Dear kirsty53cady, the last thing any of us wants is a mental image of that. This next rule is a general rule that all people should follow, never do anything if you introduce it by saying "I'm bad at this..." But our youtuber ignores this rule as well. And finally, if you are going to post something on youtube, realize that it is open to the public. Therefore, do not post anything that is intended for just one person. That's what we call a "Keep it to yourself-er". But did kirsty53cady think of this? Nope. The only entertaining thing in the video is in the title, she falls. I know that I should have grown out of tripping and falling gags when I was seven, but I have not so this is very amusing to me! I give this video a 1.5/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This is a (surprisingly) catchy song made entirely from the sounds of Windows XP and 98. While the tune may be catchy what do you think? Is this guy a talented composer? Or just a lonely computer geek with way too much time? What do you think?

As for the "Baseball kills bird" video I think that it is awesome! I know that it is horrible that the bird dies, but it's not like he was trying to kill the bird. He was just pitching as usual, and a bird flew into it's path. Maybe it's because I am a huge baseball fan (Go Red Storm!!) but I loved this video. And honestly, it made you chuckle a bit too.

Pachelbel and Valentine's day

Yay :)
All of us have heard Pachelbel's Canon, but not in this light. Comedian Rob Paravonian goes on a five minute rant about his hatred of this piece of music. Rob is accompanying himself of the guitar playing, guess what... that's right kiddo, Pachelbel's Canon. But he does not have many positive things about the canon. He goes into the motives of Pachelbel in his writing of the song. My personal favorite part of this video comes around 2:15, when he talks about the similarities between Pachelbel's Canon and modern songs of today. The best thing about Rob Paravonian's bit is that it is intelligent. He is not making cliche jokes about elementary topics, and yet he keeps the rating PG. This video is generally entertaining and family friendly. I give it a 4/5. Enjoy :)

Nay :(
Well youtubers, is almost that time of year again, Valentine's day. And while there are many happy couples in love, there are so many haters. Many pathetic, and some just plain entertaining. Well Daniel Gardner, you fell on the pathetic side. Sucks for you, but it gives us a Nay video of the week. Other than the fact that you look like the kind of nerdy serial killer that they make CSI episodes about, you are a sad sad little man. We get it Dan, you are lonely. And Danny boy, it does not help that you talking looks like a cow chewing cud. (note to the reader: if you do not know what cud is, do not look it up, it's disgusting). And he tops off the video with saying that he loves the idea of couples getting hit by a car... can you say psycho? Well Daniel, please, sell your camera and buy yourself a valentine, that's what we call a win-win situation. Daniel's bitterness gets a 1/5. Enjoy?

What do you think?
This is a video of Randy Johnson. If you know baseball you know that he's got a cannon. This guy can pitch! But his pitching quality is not what this video is about. This particular pitch and a bird collided. The bird seems to have exploded in a mass of feathers. So what do you think? Cool, tragic, or just pain weird?

And as for the "Greatest freak-out ever!" video, I think it was a total hoax. If it was real, then it's disturbing-- no doubt. But I think that some kids got bored and that was the product.

In loving memory

Dear YouTube-ers,
This week I am going to post just one video. This is a beautiful song, the words coming from a poem by Mary Elizabeth Frye. Her voice is simply wonderful and flow from her lips with a purpose. As you listen to this song I encourage you to take a moment a remember loved ones that have passed on. Honor their memory and celebrate their lives. Whether it be your friend, parent, grandparent, or even just someone you knew that left an impact on your life. Think of a fond moment with them, I ask you to smile, not cry. If you do not like this post, I apologize, but too many times we forget that love lives on, each smile caused by each memory is a continuation of joy that should not be taken for granted. Maybe you believe in Heaven, maybe you don't, maybe you believe in an afterlife, maybe you don't. But this song doesn't ask for any affiliation, just for joy. So please, Enjoy

Here is the original poem:

"Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die. "

Potter to Cyrus

Yay :)
Let's start this post off on a good note, literally. This video is for the Harry Potter fans out there. You don't have to be a scholar on the books, but to get the humor of the video you must know the basic plot. If you do not know the basic plot please remove yourself from the rock which you are under, it is crushing your soul. This feature is actually comprised of a heaping 23 videos combined to make a "Very Potter Musical". There are 14 videos in the first act and 9 videos comprising the second act. In no way is the musical a direct version of the Harry Potter series, but it is a humorous interpretation. These talented students (who are fans of J.K. Rowling’s work) wrote and preformed this hilarious take on the Harry Potter books. The only bad thing that I have to say about this feature is the recording is taken from a live audience perspective, so there are times when the laughter of the crowd makes it difficult to hear the actors. But overall, the writing is amusing, the acting is respectable, and the singing is impressive. I give this video a 3.5/5 . Enjoy :)

Nay :(
Miley Cyrus, or Hannah Montana has become one of the most famous tweens of our time. BLECK! Her hit television show "Hannah Montana" (aired on Disney Channel) runs on the lesson that all you need to do to be popular and loved is slap on a blond wig and be someone you're not. And when you’re acting normal and embracing who you really are, you will me made fun of by the popular girls and only have two friends. What a great role model huh? Well Miley proves herself once again in her vblog after the Grammies. She starts off with "Sup Miley-world?!", yes Miss Cyrus, the entire world revolves around you. Through her whole video she is making rude and obnoxious faces. My favorite part is when she annoys Taylor Swift into scolding her with a "HANNAH!" and Miley continues to force herself not only into Taylor's personal space but also into her personal vblog. And to wrap it all up our dearest Miley ends her video with a quaint "I'm gonna throw up..." Classy. I give this a 1/5, but only because it was almost entertaining to watch her kill her own career. Enjoy?

And finally, I've decided to add one more section. I want to know what you guys think. So I will post a video that could go either way, and you tell me what you think. I'll reveal in my next post how I feel about it.

So what do you think? Most epic freak out of all time? Fake? Or just plain disturbing?

Oh the joys of YouTube

If it wasn't for our dearest friend YouTube, I would not be the wonderful procrastinator that I am today. This magic website has taught me to cram entire semesters of work into one night, and really appreciate the art of a good parody. And what kind of person would I be if I did not share this joy with you? So in each blog I will post a "Yay" and a "Nay" video (I think you know what yay and nay implies,if you do not-- please get off the Internet. Congratulations on turning your computer on, but I am afraid this is as far as you are going to get). Let's start with a yay :)

YAY :)
This one is a personal favourite of mine. Fredde Gredde (or Freddie25 as he is known is cyber world) preforms an epic mash up of a heaping 32 songs in 8 minutes. Let's not forget that he is accompanying himself on the guitar. This Swedish native also brings an element of comedy into the mix with a few childhood favourites. I'd give Freddie25 a 4/5 on this one. Enjoy

NAY :(
This one is on the other side of the see-saw. As Freddie25 gracefully glides to reach the top, "nerimon" falls to the mud like a fat kid who thinks "maybe I should try the see-saw anyway". Well kid, I've got news for you. Give up, gravity still exists, either drastically change yourself or move on... nobody wants to see that. I literally had to force myself to watch this video. I would tell you not to quit your day job, but as you revealed in you video... you already did. Smooth move there Sherlock. Alex Day (his real name), only had one slightly entertaining thing to say but that came at minute 5. I do not think that many people will make it that far. I give this video .2/5. Enjoy?
